    Thank you very much, spiderman4!
Now I can use my SciPhone web cam feature.
The camera works great on Cheese, but I can't get it to work with skype (skype recognize the device but doesn't show picture).
    I love Unia

I capture my webcam video with ffmpeg, while playing, i m seeing only black frames in the video , any idea what's going wrong? ( gspcav120071214.tar.gz drivers.)

    I use the below command,

    ffmpeg -f video4linux -s 320x240 -b 600k -r 25 -i /dev/video0 -f mpeg test.mpeg

    Log message says,

<6>usbcore: registered new interface driver gspca

I am not using any other usb device, other than my webcam ( 046d:092f logitech webcam).

    Re: Generic Driver for WebCams

When I run make on the linux-uvc source i get the following:

    Code:
    -------------------------------- WARNING ---------------------------------------
The USB Video Class driver has moved to http://linuxtv.org/.
Using the Berlios SVN repository is now deprecated.
Please check http://linux-uvc.berlios.de/ for download instructions.
If you really want to compile this historical version, run 'make uvcvideo'.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was concerned about this source being deprecated. This looks like the best place to get the drivers:

Well, I'm on Hardy, with the Hercules Dualpix Chat& Show webcam.
My uvcdriver is loaded in kernel, I updated it from the newest svn and compiled, it's still labeled as 1.0 though.
When it loads on the boot, my kernel outputs me something of this kind

[ 570.273715] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Hercules Dualpix Chat and Show Webcam (06f8:3007)
[ 570.276559] uvcvideo: UVC non compliance - GET_DEF(PROBE) not supported. Enabling workaround.
[ 570.278551] input: Hercules Dualpix Chat and Show as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb4/4-5/4-5:1.0/input/input11
[ 570.293484] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
    [ 570.293499] USB Video Class driver (v0.1.0)
    [ 916.659161] uvcvideo: Failed to query (1) UVC control 9 (unit 5) : -32 (exp. 2).
    [ 916.700903] uvcvideo: Failed to query (1) UVC control 9 (unit 5) : -32 (exp. 2).
    [ 916.708758] uvcvideo: Failed to query (1) UVC control 9 (unit 5) : -32 (exp. 2).
I've googled a bit about the error, but it links me to some discussion for real geeks here (people who create the driver), it's still hard to perceive

    My lsusb -v gives :

Bus 004 Device 004: ID 06f8:3007 Guillemot Corp.
    Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
    Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 045e:007d Microsoft Corp. Notebook Optical Mouse
    Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0db0:697a Micro Star International Bluetooth Dongle
    Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
So, it means device correctly detected in the usb port, but, I'm worrying about the "kernel part", which doesn't seem to load and register the driver as it should.

Furthemore, my "gstreamer-properties" just displays a flickering image, that doesn't have nothing in common with the webcam.

Sorry, was about to mention that my graphic drivers is the default one Hardy ships with, it's called "ati".

    Anyone would like to help?

    Re: Generic Driver for WebCams

Thank you for posting this information. I've long wanted to use my Panasonic NV-GS11 DV camcorder with an Ubuntu (Gutsy) installation.

I'm not so concerned about the webcam function; I'm interested in downloading video footage to Ubuntu for editing and burning to a DVD.

I decided to give the instructions (at http://blog.gnist.org/article.php?st...echQuickCamPro) a go anyway. I ignored the warning about the driver being deprecated, since I wasn't sure how to install the suggested alternative.

    After using the
    Code:
    sudo make install
command, I closed the terminal window I was using. I then connected the camcorder to my computer via the firewire cable and switched it on. Nothing happened. I opened a new terminal window and (for the hell of it) typed
    Code:
    dmesg
(the next command in the set of instructions). A large slab of error messages resulted; neither the computer nor the camcorder recognize one another. I'm guessing the camcorder driver is compatible with my camcorder only when hooked up via USB (for webcam or grabbing still pictures from video footage).

I've been using Ubuntu on and off for a couple of years, but I'm feeling out of my depth here. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Sorry Kathryn, I can't really help youu with this. I'm still stuck with my issue, looking forward to the sulution. I'm not that practised with A&V in Linux, but try to paste your dmesg output here, it will be helpful in case anyone wants to give you a hand.

I hope you'll get some help here.

    Re: Generic Driver for WebCams

Ok, posting this as a TEMP work around.... I had to use Virtualbox's log to figure this out. It seems that I had to use it to reset the USB webcam then poof, my webcam worked in UBUNTU. But I had to do this EVERYTIME. Here's what I have, 1st- make sure you install RESTRICTED, BUILD-ESSENTIAL, BACKPORTS, HEADERS & anything associated with GSPCA in synaptic. Then download the 2 files here- http://mxhaard.free.fr/download.html .... Extract them, then compile & install them according to there README/INSTALLs. IGNORE the errors, just continue. Now u need to make a txt file with these 2 lines of commands in it: $sudo rmmod ehci_hcd $sudo modprobe ehci_hcd . (Do NOT use the $). Make the file executable. You can put this file on desktop or whatever, but it has to be manually run everytime you boot & WILL reset ALL usb devices. When you run it, rin terminal. THIS IS NOT A FIX!!!! Just a work around until I/WE can find out what's going on & fix it. This is/has been used with Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 i386 & AMD64 ( Gateway USB 2.0 WebCam ID: 04f2:b027 ) with ALL updates & newest Kernel/Generic. Hope this helps you too, please let me know. TY, Jay Oh forgot to add- worked with SKYPE, EKIGA, CHEESE & a few others. Still getting no device /dev/video0 with camorama. NOTE: I had the most success ONLY useing gspcav1-20071224. I had to ignore the others due to deprecated packages/lack of support/etc..
