We have another victim!
I recently obtained a Samsung Slyde SPH-M540 cell phone, and currently have it connected to my computer via USB. The cell phone appears to recognize my computer - it says it's connected, and has even taken the opportunity to charge its battery - but Ubuntu seems oblivious. No appropriate options seem to be available; no icons have appeared in the desktop, computer, /mnt, or /media folders.
When I run tail -s 3 -f /var/log/messages in a terminal window, I get this:
