I use Ubuntu Server 11ish for my homeserver. Works great.
Software Raid5 4x2tb drives, not one hiccup.
Look into BackupPC or better yet, Crashplan both are free.
I've never had good luck with the USB install method. Always use the CD.
I've been looking for this for a LONG time. I got SOLR running, but at the time you had to actually manually archive each document. Don't know if that has changed.
Anyway... Wanted to mark this...
The machine is in production now so I can't work on this issue. As noted above I just installed 9.04 and release upgraded my way to 10.04. Next time I build up a new server I'll give it a shot.
...
Not sure exactly what you are getting at. I made all my partitions as "use for raid" then built my arrays with those partitions.
I used the exact same scheme on 9.04, 9.10, 10.04, 10.10. The...
Thaw the problem. All I old get is a "could not install grub" on a red screen. Grub couldn't be installed to the Mbr or a boot partition.
I ended up having to do a 9.04 install and the release upgrade my way to 10.04.
That script probably relies on you running an email server. If you just want to use an external account, do a google search for sendemail peel script. I use this script to send me a server...
So has anyone gotten this to work with the install media?
I created 2 Raid 1 software arrays one for / and one for swap. No matter what I try, Grub2 won't install.
I have also tried a raid 5 /...
Ugh... Just building up my new home server with a bunch of raid disks and GRUB just wont install no matter what I do. Think I'll fail back to 9.10 which I know worked with raid.
If you have a couple systems in your house, check out BackupPC also.
That's what I was saying. Karmic non-OSE, USB does not work out of the box on Lucid.
Hrm. Got that all installed, but USB doesn't work out of the box. According to the Community Documentation USBFS is now depreciated and VirtualBox supports handling USB devices directly. ...
For virtualbox, are you guys installing OSE or the proprietary version? I need USB support but noticed they haven't released a version for Lucid yet...
I'd love to see power management take step up. Every version I either gain or lose battery life. 9.04 I was down about 2 hours. 9.10 I was back up 2hrs, now 10.04 I am back down about 1.5hrs. On...
I know it sucks, and I have probably made statements against it in the past, but go ahead and just get an iPod Touch. Easily the best investment I have made. I don't even have any music on it. ...
Same issue here. Tried nomodeset and it just made the screen flicker a bunch.
Willing to wait, just wanted to check compatibility with my laptop: Acer 4810tz.
If you connected the cable between the two and the link lights don't come on, then you need what is called a cross-over cable (not that easy to just find), or a plain old network switch (very easy to...
Correct. 8.04 had a bug where DHCP would still run even if a static address was assigned.
OP: Just remove the package dhc3-client and your problem should be resolved.
Look for information on webmin.
I don't think what you are looking for is possible. How would the share know if the incoming user has permission without asking first?
Someone please correct me if I am wrong...
NFS cannot overwrite permissions on a local folder. So even though the folder is mounted as read/write (the rw switch in the mount), the user still...
I think you are just allowing logon from any IP address. Not positive, but you could probably use "Allow from {yourIP}" or "Allow From x.x.x.0/24" for a range....
Again, not positive.
