Many thanks for this post - it turned out to be very useful. :D
I've stuck with Geegie for a while, but thought it was a little on the slow side (v's GQview!). However, today I was trying to do...
I just checked another system I've got access to and - surprise, surprise - it's also got this "Virtualization" function which seems to be to turn on the (required) Intel-VT instruction support.
...
I forgot to mention that it's relatively easy to check if your processor has the virtualization support, (which I incorrectly called "64bit enabled" above). Merely do:
egrep 'vmx|svm' /proc/cpuinfo...
Where does it say this - on install or when you create a VM?
Make sure your processor is 64bit enabled (IntelVT or AMD-V) and that this has been switched on in the BIOS. Most machines I've come across ship with this switched off by default. I'm using an eBay'd...
Yep, that's sorted it - and now I've got my VM's back. It might be wishful thinking, but VMware seems a little faster under Lucid than it was under Hardy. :D
One problem down, onto the next one......
Doing a quick 'apt-get upgrade' this morning (for some reason the update notification taskbarcon I had on 8.04LTS seems to be missing) and saw the following:
Anyone get the same, and should I...
Excellent - I'll give that a try.
You're a hero!! :guitar:
Bob
Quick question - where did you get these fixes from? I'm using Server rather than Workstation, and like you I've got a good few VM's that I need to need, but VMware Server doesn't seem to like Lucid....
Like the title says, I'm trying to get VMware Server 2.0.2 working on a new Lucid 10.04 install, but it's bombing out when trying to build the vmmon module:
Using 2.6.x kernel build system.

I'm going to be rebuilding my laptop - which seems to have similar specs to yours - either today or tomorrow, so once I've done so I'll post the update process needed back here. I need it for work on...
I've got two suggestions, based on the solutions found to similar problems I've found in the past (the 9.04 install went through a stack of CD's before I got one that worked - and 20/20 hindsight is...
Using Lucid 32bit (full version, not beta or RC) on an Acer 5315 laptop which unfortunately powered-down during a software install. Even since then I've got problems installing or admin-ing software,...
Hi '603 - yes I just got rid of Linpus on my AAO and sure enough neither card readers are working for me either - so it's not just you!
That said, my WLAN light also doesn't work - and...
I realise that it's not helpful, but I've got exactly the same problem. Tried local build of ffmpeg, Handbrake etc and I get the same problem as you - the file converts, transfers okay, and then I...
Hmm, not sure about that GPU spec - if you're that big into games then why not get a PS3 (remember it can be Linux'd) or XBox360 (yes, I know that's Microsoft!) and spend the rest of the budget to...
Hi Potatan,
I'd agree - the Dell's are pretty safe bet - heck there's even a Dell forum here, (I just posted to it). You might have to work at getting some of the kit working (e.g. wireless cards...
Sorry for the delay - I didn't find the option to subscribe to threads until now, so I was trying to find this thread manually.
Okay - a "live cd" should be a "zero footprint" install....
Hi Chris (that's my brother's name too!)
Nothing comes to mind at the moment (and because laptop and other screen are now separated by about 25m it's a little difficult to test). :-(
One...
I'm a little confused here... your title seems to suggest that you've lost your Windows stuff, but the text seems to say that it's only the dual-head stuff that's not working post Ubuntu-ing.
I'm...
Hi Billw11,
Okay, first things first, if you going to use this box for a wireless access point, then I'd be tempted to choose something other than Ubuntu. From my experiences (and others at work),...
Thanks for that ulixes1983
Now if I can find someone equally helpful with the digital part of this hardware, then I'll be a happy penguin herder!
I might just say "what the heck", back...
Is there anyone out there that's got a working install of this USB hardware (Pinnacle Dazzle Hybrid Stick) with Ubuntu 7.10 (especially 64bit!)?
The card's lsusb identity looks like:
